  • How do participants qualify for the Professional Ice Technician (PIT) certification?
    To qualify for the PIT certification, participants must complete the four core GVI courses and have at least 2000 hours of practical hands-on experience as an ice technician. A recertification exam will be required every five years.
  • When will the courses be released?
    Introduction to Ice Making will be available for purchase in January 2025. All other courses are set to be released between February and May 2025.
  • Do participants need a membership?
    Participants do not need a membership to enroll in GVI courses. Once a participant completes at least one course, they will gain access to exclusive GVI webinars, resources, and virtual panels.
  • Will there be exams?
    Yes, there will be exams at the end of each module in a course. The exams include true/false, multiple choice, and matching questions. Participants must achieve a score of 80% or higher to advance to the next module.
  • If participants have a similar certification in the industry, will GVI recognize it?
    GVI is developing an extensive challenge exam process and will provide an update in early 2025.
  • Will GVI offer hands-on/in-venue training?
    Yes, GVI is planning on launching in-person training opportunities in late 2025.
  • How are GVI courses designed?
    GVI develops the curriculum and content by collaborating with subject matter experts in the industry, including manufacturers CIMCO, Zamboni, Jet Ice, and Athletica. The courses are created by an experienced instructional designer using modern educational strategies and delivered through the award-winning cloud-based learning management system TalentLMS.
